This vision is the result of a broad-based movement\u2014involving citizens, communities, institutions, and academia\u2014fueled by dozens of events, thematic working groups, and a shared determination to take action in the face of the multiple crises affecting our city, our neighborhoods, and extending beyond Montr\u00e9al\u2019s borders. <\/h6>\n<h6 style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw);\">It is based on a key observation: no single organization can bring about the transition on its own. It must be a collective effort, rooted in local communities, and guided by a systemic transformation of our social, economic, democratic, and cultural models. <\/h6>\n<h6 style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw);\">Our vision of the TS\u00c9 serves as both a shared compass and a living work in progress. It offers a collective direction for reimagining Montreal in a way that does justice to its neighborhoods, its residents, and the living beings that call it home. It is a call to action, to connect with one another, and to transform our city together.  <\/h6>\n<h6 style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw);\">An expanded version of the transition vision statement was adopted in October 2025 by the Steering Committee, the Executive Committee\/Board of Directors, and the members. A shared vision is what allows us to align our efforts, speak with a stronger voice, and present a united front. <\/h6>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"ief3\"><button type=\"button\" class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-ief3\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">Is TeC an activist space?<\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content us_custom_b4198c51\" id=\"content-ief3\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h6 style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw);\">Yes, in the noble sense of the word. We\u2019re even radical, in the original sense of the term\u2014that is, we question the root causes of today\u2019s crises and challenges. We are committed; we take action to bring about change, and we do so with professionalism, strategy, and openness. We value diverse approaches, complementarity, and the combination of tactics and cultures of action. And we recognize the indispensable role of activist groups, as well as that of less activist institutions.    <\/h6>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"w05e\"><button type=\"button\" class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-w05e\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">Is TeC partisan?<\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content us_custom_b4198c51\" id=\"content-w05e\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h6 style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw);\">No. We do not support any political party. Our public events (AGMs, summer camps, debates, neighborhood tours, community days, themed civic events, etc.) are the public face of the alliance: they\u2019re where we reflect, build bridges, and take collective action\u2026 and have a good time together. <\/h6>\n<p style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw); font-family: 'NewEdge666-Light', sans-serif; font-weight: 400 !important; margin-bottom: 1em;\">At the same time, our thematic working groups are developing concrete proposals, assessments, shared tools, and initiatives on issues such as local democracy, housing, reducing car dependence, and environmental justice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw); font-family: 'NewEdge666-Light', sans-serif; font-weight: 400 !important; margin-bottom: 1em;\">Through Espace Quartiers, we support local initiatives, build connections between grassroots efforts, and celebrate the diversity of life in Montreal. We put neighborhoods first. <\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw); font-family: 'NewEdge666-Light', sans-serif; font-weight: 400 !important; margin-bottom: 1em;\">We are also working to influence the city government, other institutions, and civil society to bring about policy change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw); font-family: 'NewEdge666-Light', sans-serif; font-weight: 400 !important; margin-bottom: 1em;\">And our communications serve to amplify voices, share knowledge, mobilize a broader audience, and build a collective narrative of transition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw); font-family: 'NewEdge666-Light', sans-serif; font-weight: 400 !important; margin-bottom: 0;\">We are not a funding organization; we are not a community or neighborhood organization that carries out grassroots projects or provides services to citizens; we are not a citizens\u2019 movement; we are not a forum for consultation; we are not what our members are, because we do not wish to take their place, but rather to act collectively where each person encounters individual limitations.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"l3d7\"><button type=\"button\" class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-l3d7\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">Where are TeC&#039;s operations based?<\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content us_custom_b4198c51\" id=\"content-l3d7\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h6 style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw);\">The coordination team does not have a fixed headquarters. We operate out of several third places, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdhentransition.ca\/\">Cit\u00e9-des-Hospitali\u00e8res<\/a> (Plateau) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LaBaliseMTL\">La Balise<\/a> (Rosemont), but most importantly: our activities take place throughout Montreal, in every neighborhood, with a particular focus on outlying neighborhoods and territorial inequities. The transition isn\u2019t just a matter for \u201cbobo\u201d or central neighborhoods.  <\/h6>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"l552\"><button type=\"button\" class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-l552\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">Does TeC operate outside of Montreal?<\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content us_custom_b4198c51\" id=\"content-l552\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h6 style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw);\">We\u2019re based in Montreal, but we receive requests from outside the city and share what we\u2019ve learned with other regions. We also work with partners in Quebec and across Canada to spread ideas and solutions. We certainly recognize that the transition doesn\u2019t stop at the city\u2019s borders.  <\/h6>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"i73f\"><button type=\"button\" class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-i73f\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">Are the activities accessible (in terms of language, location, disability, etc.)? Is TeC diverse? <\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content us_custom_b4198c51\" id=\"content-i73f\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h6 style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw); font-family: 'NewEdge666-Light', sans-serif; font-weight: 400 !important; margin-bottom: 1em;\">We do our best to ensure physical, linguistic, cultural, and financial accessibility, as well as the cultural safety of the spaces we offer. And we\u2019re learning as we go. Whenever possible or upon request, we provide childcare, meals, and public transit passes. We also offer financial assistance to any individual or organization for whom a lack of funds would prevent them from participating. We ensure that our event venues are accessible to people with limited mobility. Our activities and communications are primarily in French, but we can also communicate in English, and we can arrange for simultaneous translation services as needed during events.    <\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: max(1.2rem, 1.5vw); font-family: 'NewEdge666-Light', sans-serif; font-weight: 400 !important; margin-bottom: 1em;\">We\u2019re also very committed to JEDI issues\u2014not because we love Star Wars, but because justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion are a mindset, values, and practices that are highly important and necessary. We\u2019re not perfect in this area either, but we strive to lead by example rather than just preach. We offer our members training, publications, and updates on these issues; we view decolonization as an ongoing process that is never fully complete. We ensure that the composition of our governing bodies is diverse and representative\u2014including not only leadership positions and the coordination team but also the audiences at our events. We have adopted the practice of incorporating territorial acknowledgments at the start of our public events. We avoid evaluating just for the sake of evaluating, or spending too much time navel-gazing to celebrate and boast about our impact; rather, we want to learn, improve, and share our results. Their operations follow certain common guidelines and practices across groups and projects but are adapted to the specific needs of their mandate and roadmap, and thus take various forms (steering committee, subcommittees, core group, expanded collective, etc.).
