5 Neighborhood Mobility Projects Under the Spotlight: A Look Back at the Successful Second Edition of Espace Solutions!

On March 11, the second edition of Espace Solutions took place—an initiative designed by the Alliance’s Espace Quartiers to share knowledge and expertise for the benefit of our communities, during which five neighborhood mobility projects were presented. Here’s a look back at an evening filled with lively discussions.

The “Espace Solutions” event on engine oversizing held on March 11 perfectly embodied the spirit of the initiative. In a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, about sixty participants from diverse backgrounds came together to share their knowledge and skills in support of five Montreal-based projects that aim to address mobility challenges and improve the quality of life for Montrealers through a socio-ecological transition.

A participant shares their experience:

I loved the simple, concise, and effective approach that allows us to pool our knowledge and identify several concrete courses of action.

In addition to addressing over-motorization, the projects presented had other things in common, namely challenges related to mobilization and polarization. Discussions focused on mobilizing other citizens to provide support for those involved and keep the movements active. The central role of municipal and government bodies in implementing these projects that benefit the community was emphasized repeatedly. Since the issue of the role of cars is a polarizing one, various strategies were proposed to facilitate dialogue, pilot a project, encourage participation, and convince elected officials to take action in support of sustainable, safe, equitable, and year-round mobility.

Among the outcomes of the event are identifying concrete solutions, establishing collaborative partnerships, recruiting volunteers for projects, and providing participants with the opportunity to meet experts on the topics discussed.
