The Socio-Ecological Transition in Saint-Léonard: A Look Back at the Alliance’s 9th Neighborhood Visit!
The result of a collaborative effort between Transition en Commun, the Saint-Léonard borough, and its many local partners, the neighborhood tour held on May 28 highlighted concrete and inspiring initiatives led by and for the Saint-Léonard community.
Through a rich and engaging experience led by passionate people, participants were able to discover how Saint-Léonard is working to build a greener, more supportive, and more inclusive neighborhood. Whether through the removal of hard surfaces and the greening of public spaces, the creation of a stormwater-absorbing park, community and educational gardens, and a solidarity market, the expansion of social housing options, or the revitalization of agricultural heritage—these projects demonstrate, on the ground, a strong commitment to addressing climate and social challenges while strengthening the community fabric of this neighborhood with its unique history.
The visit also provided an opportunity to grasp the scope of the changes to come and the collective efforts needed to support them: the extension of the Blue Line, the arrival of the REV, the redevelopment of Jean-Talon East, and the creation of a Land Use Plan (PPU) to provide more affordable housing and a better quality of life for everyone.
These initiatives reflect a shared conviction: it is by mobilizing citizens’ expertise, community leaders, and institutions that we can bring about lasting change in our neighborhoods.
