Neighborhoods and Living Environments
Neighborhoods are the fertile ground where the transition takes root. It takes shape in everyday life, through neighborhood dynamics, social ties, a sense of belonging, and access to basic services. They are the settings for concrete action, for addressing inequalities, and for fostering vibrant solidarity.
2023–present
The Neighborhoods Initiative: The dedicated body that connects the alliance to local communities
Espace Quartiers is a space for solidarity and mutual support among neighborhoods that builds the capacity of grassroots actors and fosters the development of collective solutions for the socio-ecological transition. Rooted in local realities, it brings together citizen groups, organizations, institutions, and neighborhood roundtables to exchange ideas, learn, and influence TEC’s direction, placing social and environmental justice—as well as territorial inequities—at the heart of its actions. Through its core group, the “Grandes rencontres,” neighborhood visits, and the “Espace solutions,” it mobilizes Montreal’s community leaders and helps ensure that neighborhood perspectives are heard within the TEC initiative.

TEC's Neighborhood Visits
Three or four times a year, the Alliance’s neighborhood visits travel throughout Montreal to discover what is actually happening in the neighborhoods and to shed light on local realities. These visits provide a space where community leaders can share their experiences, identify the inequities and challenges affecting their neighborhoods, and present the initiatives they are leading. They also serve to convey strong political messages and raise the profile of local leaders.

The Espace Quartiers Major Events
Bringing together local stakeholders around local initiatives, shared challenges, and cross-cutting themes related to the socio-ecological transition (SET), these gatherings explore systemic challenges affecting local communities while highlighting initiatives that address them in innovative and collaborative ways. They aim to highlight the diverse realities across the metropolitan area—the challenges, potential, and expertise specific to each neighborhood—and to create spaces for dialogue that foster the sharing of experiences, the recognition of experiential knowledge, and the empowerment of communities.
2024–present
The Solutions Center: Supporting Project Leaders
Born out of a desire to identify the specific needs of neighborhoods and address them collectively, Espace Solutions is a platform for sharing knowledge and finding collective solutions. During an event, participants present an issue related to an initiative they are leading or a reality in their community. From there, a guided conversation begins with the group: we reflect together, pool our ideas, and identify concrete avenues for moving projects forward or deepening our discussion of the issue at hand.
