Changing the economy means putting resources and the wealthy back at the service of communities. This requires a social and local economy, the democratization and de-commodification of essential goods, more democratic economic governance, and, ultimately, a more affordable economy.

Participation in the Alliance for the Democratization of the Economy
Emerging from Multitudes’ “Economies in Transition” initiative, the Alliance brings together the Chantier de l’économie sociale, the Caisse d’économie solidaire, the Institute for Research in Contemporary Economics (IREC), Multitudes, PME Montréal Centre-Est, and Territoires innovants en économie sociale et solidaire (TIESS) to explore alternative economic models.

A Vision Presented at the Social Economy Summit
At this summit, which brought together more than 1,600 participants and nearly 700 organizations, the Economies in Transition group presented an ambitious vision for rethinking the economy in light of the socio-ecological transition, helping to raise awareness of its work and position the social economy as a key driver of future transformations.

Group Seminar on the Economy
More than fifty stakeholders gathered for the collective meeting on February 19, 2025, to prepare for the Social Economy Summit and to develop an ambitious vision for economic transformation. Drawing on the spotlight shed on more than 40 inspiring initiatives already underway across the regions, this meeting made it possible to concretely link the vision to practical actions, identify strategic priorities, and fully grasp the scope of what is possible.
