Key funding agreements to support the alliance

As the new year begins, Transition en Commun is pleased to announce several financial partnerships established in late 2024 with the Lucie and André Chagnon Foundation, the City of Montreal, the Government of Quebec as part of Action-Climat Québec, and Centraide of Greater Montreal.

Just two years after the alliance was launched in November 2022, this funding recognizes the alliance’s initial achievements and its potential to drive socio-ecological transition (SET) in Montreal. This funding is pivotal in that it provides us with the financial resources for the next three years to continue and strengthen collective action around the alliance’s founding objectives and to implement our key strategic and thematic priorities, including:

• Continue to build a shared vision of TSÉ for Montreal and foster an ever-broader consensus around that vision.

• Consolidate and expand support for existing working groups and thematic initiatives (democracy, housing, reducing car dependence), and support the development of new themes such as community climate resilience and food citizenship.

• Strengthen and expand local approaches to the transition, particularly through the “Espace Quartiers” initiative, site visits, tailoring efforts to local needs, and fostering neighborhood influence within the alliance.

• Strengthen the links between social justice and environmentalism within the alliance itself and in its thematic work.

• Increase public and political representation, in particular through communication and public relations initiatives and by taking public stances.

• Continuously strengthen the alliance so that it can fully fulfill its role, and enhance its influence, mobilization, collaboration, and collective governance.

After supporting the creation and organization of the alliance beginning in late 2022, the Lucie and André Chagnon Foundation is renewing and expanding its support through a financial contribution of $1,500,000 over three years, valid through the end of 2027, to support all of TeC’s initiatives.

The City of Montreal, a long-standing partner of TeC, has confirmed a three-year agreement through 2027 for a total contribution of $450,000. This agreement aims to formalize the collaboration with the City of Montreal and will support the development of the alliance’s activities, with a specific focus on guidelines of mutual interest, including urban planning and mobility, and community resilience.

The Government of Quebec, as part ofAction-Climat Québec—a program coordinated by the Quebec Action Fund for Sustainable Development and stemming from the 2030 Green Economy Plan, is offering financial support of up to $250,000 through 2026 and recognizes Transition en commun as a promising initiative to support mobilization, awareness-raising, and action by citizens and organizations in the fight against climate change.

Centraide of Greater Montreal also renewed its support earlier last year with an annual contribution of $100,000, specifically earmarked for the activities of Espace Quartiers and aimed at supporting the participation, capacity-building, and learning of neighborhood stakeholders, organizations, and citizens, their influence within the alliance, and, more broadly, a shared understanding of the socio-ecological transition, within the context of the fight against poverty and social exclusion.
