November 26: Montreal Forum on Democracy and the Alliance’s First General Assembly!

The Alliance is pleased to invite you to a day filled with celebration, reflection, and discussion on November 26 at the Cité des Hospitalières for its very first general assembly, followed by the Montreal Forum: Democracy at the Heart of the Transition.

The first part of the day, dedicated to the general assembly, will be an opportunity to celebrate the collective effort that has enabled the alliance to come this far, to take stock of where we stand today, and to look ahead to the years to come. Regarding the structure and operations of Transition en commun, this will also be an important moment when we will present the final operational guide, unveil the new composition of the steering committee —designed to best represent the ecosystem working toward transition in Montreal—and elect the new members of the executive committee, the operational backbone of the alliance.

Starting at 11 a.m., we’ll then move on to the Forum, co-organized with CRE Montréal, CÉSIM, CMTQ, and Culture Montréal. This event aims to reignite a discussion—one that is more important than ever —on the state of democracy in Montreal and to highlight its crucial links to the socio-ecological transition.

 

The central question that will guide our discussions is: How can we strengthen and revitalize Montreal’s democracy to ensure a successful socio-ecological transition?

In three steps, we will first take stock of various aspects of democracy in Montreal; we will then hear, put forward, and refine different proposals to strengthen and renew Montreal’s democracy; and finally, we will identify the steps to be taken to implement these proposals and plan the follow-up to the Forum.

Neighborhood delegations have been formed to ensure that a diverse range of perspectives is represented at the Forum. We are also fortunate to welcome several elected officials and city employees, as well as a number of researchers specializing in democracy, who will share their expertise with us.
