At the Crossroads of Rooftops: A Look Back at the 7th Major Meeting of Espace Quartiers on Housing

*For a more detailed account of the evening, check out the article in Nouvelles d’ici. Thank you for your work and for this showcase!*
On May 21, nearly 50 people gathered for the 7th major meeting of Espace quartiers at the Centre Saint-Pierre. It was an opportunity to discuss together issues related to the housing crisis and the climate crisis at the neighborhood level. These two deeply interconnected realities call for collective responses. We explored this topic, which, while reflecting multiple crises, also opens the door to numerous opportunities for solidarity and action.
As part of its National Action Week, May 19–25, FRAPRU issued a call to action and to occupy public spaces to demand the construction of public housing.
On this occasion, the “Housing in Transition” working group presented the main points of its case Toward a Just Housing Transition, including an overview of the current situation, as well as eight broad categories of proposals to address the identified challenges.
A big thank you also to the CMTQ, the “Cœur de l’Espace quartier” group, and TEC’s Transitional Housing Working Group for organizing and hosting this wonderful evening.
